About
Kevin's clients run the gamut from 100+ bed institutions to rural home health agencies. He also has experience defending prisoner litigation in state and federal court and in representing healthcare providers before regulatory agencies.
Kevin was raised in Birmingham, Alabama and attended the University of Alabama where he obtained his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in History. He attended law school at the University of South Carolina School of Law in Columbia. During school, he had the privilege of serving as a clerk in the chambers of the Hon. Jean Hoefer Toal, Chief Justice of the South Carolina Supreme Court. Thereafter he settled in Columbia, gaining admission to the bar in 2013. Kevin has statewide litigation experience, handling matters in all of South Carolina’s judicial circuits, and moving to Charleston in 2017 to grow his practice at Smyth Whitley, LLC.
Kevin lives in North Charleston with his wife, Cate, and two children, Adelaide and James. Away from the office, Kevin enjoys spending time with his family outdoors as well as pursuing his interests in local and regional history.
